I completed my Private Pilots License in 21 Days thanks to Ormond Beach Aviation in Florida, in January 2006. The course is specifically aimed at getting you your license in the shortest possible time. The Florida climate usually means that you can fly every day, so you will can book en-block, which means that you won't have to take little bits of time off, you can just book a month and do it.
If you think that getting your PPL in 21 days might not prepare you enough for flying in the UK then you might be partly right, as the conditions are close to ideal in Florida. That said, it won't matter because you will need to get checked out back in the UK whenever you fly a new plane. You are also taught at night classes by the very knowledgeable Mike Arman, who has been a accident safety investigator since the days when planes started crashing. You will be well prepared for everything.
If you think about embarking on such a course there are a number of things that you will need to know. The US security situation is a pain, and it generates enough paperwork to sink any ship. Be prepared to be filling out paperwork for days and standing in the cold outside the US embassy. You get credited for using an AFE Online course texts, I suggest you set asside 6 weeks to read them, do Aviation Law 1st, and take the exams here in the UK. There really isn't an excuse, you can pop along to any flying school and take the exam, its multiple guess. If you want to cheat a bit then you can use the PPL confuser book which makes it almost possible to pass the exams without reading the books, just by playing the 'examination game'.a
